Username Generator

Generate unique, random usernames for gaming, social media, or any online account. Multiple styles, instant results, no signup.

Generate username ideas in four styles — gaming, tech, simple or fully random — without reusing the handle you use everywhere else. Copy the ones you like, keep the account separate, and pair it with a temporary address when you are not sure you will keep the account.

What makes a usable username: short, readable and free of personal details
Username character and length rules across Instagram, X, TikTok, YouTube and GitHub

What makes a good username

Short enough to type, readable when someone says it out loud, and free of anything that identifies you: no real name, no birth year, no city. Check how it reads without spaces — concatenations that look harmless in one language can read very differently in another.

Decide upfront whether you want the same handle everywhere (easy to find, easy to tie back to you) or a different one per platform (harder to connect, harder to remember). For accounts you may abandon, separate is the safer default.

Platform rules: characters and length limits

Rules differ per service, and a name that works on one can be rejected on another:

  • Instagram — 30 characters, letters, numbers, dot and underscore; dots not at the start, end or doubled.
  • X (Twitter) — 15 characters, letters, numbers and underscore.
  • TikTok — 24 characters, letters, numbers, dot and underscore.
  • YouTube — 30 characters, may also use a hyphen.
  • GitHub — 39 characters; a hyphen cannot be first or last.
  • Reddit — 20 characters. Twitch — 25. Snapchat — 15 and must start with a letter. LinkedIn — 100.

Availability: why the tool cannot check it for you

Checking every platform in real time would mean firing automated requests at each of them, which they block. The generator therefore produces candidates, not reservations: if your first choice is taken, generate again.

A quick manual check on most platforms is to open the profile URL — a 404 usually means the handle is free, a 200 means it is taken. Rate limits and reserved names can make the result read as "unknown", so the registration form itself is the only definitive test.

Keep your real identity out of it

A generated handle only buys privacy if the rest of the signup does not give it away. Pair it with a temporary email address from inbox Me for accounts you are testing or may never return to — that way neither your usual username nor your real inbox is tied to the account.

For anything you intend to keep — banking, work, a store with saved cards — use your real details and a real address instead. A throwaway identity cannot recover a password you lose.

How this tool works

  1. Pick a style: readable, fully random, or with numbers.
  2. Generate a list of suggestions in your browser.
  3. Copy the handle you like and keep it for that account only.

When to use it

Handy when a service rejects your usual handle, or when you need throwaway accounts for testing without exposing the username you use everywhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated usernames guaranteed to be available?
No — we cannot check availability across every platform in real time. The generator creates unique-sounding combinations, but whether a specific username is taken on a particular platform depends on that platform's user base. If your first choice is taken, just generate again for fresh options.
What style of username is best for gaming?
The Gaming style produces the most competitive-sounding names — short, punchy, and aggressive (NeonBlade, ShadowWolf). For esports or ranked play, these tend to stand out. For casual gaming or RPGs, the Simple style (RedFox, GoldenHawk) often works better.
Is it safe to use the same username everywhere?
It makes you easy to find — which is exactly what links your accounts together. Use one handle for identity (portfolio, professional profiles) and different ones for throwaway registrations, gaming and forums.
Does the generator store the usernames I create?
No. Everything is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Refreshing the page clears the list.
