Temporary Email FAQ — Common Questions Answered
Is temporary email safe? How long does it last? Can you reply? Straight answers to the most common questions about disposable inboxes.
- What is a temporary email address?
- A temporary (or "disposable") email address is an inbox you can create instantly without registering an account. It receives real email — confirmation links, one-time codes, newsletters — but it isn't tied to your identity and can be thrown away whenever you like.
- Is inbox Me really free, and is there a catch?
- Yes. Generating an address and receiving mail costs nothing and requires no account, credit card, or app download. We keep the service free by keeping it lightweight — there is no premium tier gating basic inbox access.
- How long does a temporary email address last?
- Your inbox stays active in your browser session and keeps receiving mail while the tab is open. Addresses and their messages are periodically purged from our servers, so treat inbox Me as a short-term mailbox, not permanent storage.
- Can I reply to emails from a temporary address?
- No. inbox Me is receive-only by design. This is a deliberate privacy and anti-abuse decision — a send-capable disposable address is far more attractive to spammers, and receive-only keeps the service usable for everyone.
- Is it safe to use a temporary email for account verification?
- It's safe for low-stakes sign-ups: newsletters, free trials, forum accounts, downloading a gated PDF, or testing a form during development. Avoid it for anything tied to money, identity, or long-term account recovery (banking, government services, primary social media) — if you ever lose access to the temp inbox, you lose the ability to reset that account.
- Will using a disposable email get my account banned?
- Some services explicitly block known disposable-email domains to fight fake sign-ups (this is common for SaaS trials and community forums). Most newsletters, e-commerce sites, and one-off downloads have no such restriction. If a sign-up form rejects the address, that's the site's policy, not a limitation of the temp inbox itself.
- Does inbox Me sell or share my data?
- We don't require any personal data to use the core inbox, so there's nothing tied to you to sell. See our Privacy Policy for the specifics on what minimal, non-identifying data we do log (e.g. abuse-prevention signals) and how long it's retained.
- How is a temporary email different from Gmail's "+" aliasing?
- Plus-addressing (yourname+shopping@gmail.com) still delivers to your real inbox and is trivially reversible to your identity — it filters spam, it doesn't hide you. A temporary email is a fully separate address with no link back to your real mailbox, so it protects your identity, not just your inbox organization.
- What happens to messages after I close the tab?
- Once you navigate away or close the tab, that inbox session ends. Reopening inbox Me generates a brand-new address — there's no way to recover the old inbox, which is intentional: nothing persists that could later be traced back to you.
